The first season deals essentially with introducing the characters and their strengths, skills and weaknesses. It also introduces the main foe for the first two seasons, Ari Haswari and two more characters, Timothy McGee and Jimmy Palmer (as replacement for Gerald Jackson) who become main and recurring characters respectively.

1x01 Yankee White
While on Air Force One, a Navy Commander dies. Agents from the Navy NCIS decide to take the investigation into their own hands and also force a Secret Service Agent Kate Todd to help. Now the NCIS team has to figure out if the Navy Officer's death was of natural causes or not. Also secret service agent Caitlin Todd Resigns from the secret service at the end of the episode after nearly killing the president and joins the NCIS team.
1x02 Hung Out to Dry
A Marine dies in a night skydiving accident, but Gibbs thinks it was murder.
1x03 Seadog
A Naval Commander's body washes ashore, and the evidence strongly points to his involvement with drug trafficking, but Gibbs refuses to believe that the dead officer was dirty.
1x04 The Immortals
The NCIS team is drawn into the world of online gaming after a sailor is drowned in a video game stunt gone bad.
1x05 The Curse
The team investigates an old theft of a million dollars from a ship when the remains of a Navy lieutenant who was accused of the theft show up ten years after he was reported missing.
1x06 High Seas
A former subordinate of Gibbs asks for his help in investigating the case of a sailor who overdosed on meth while on liberty, but the sailor claims he's never touched the drug.
1x07 Sub Rosa
Gibbs and Todd board a submarine to search for an imposter after one of its crew's body was found. First appearance of McGee.
1x08 Minimum Security
A mysterious death leads Gibbs and the team into the heart of the terrorist detention centre at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
1x09 Marine Down
The team investigates some strange happenings after a Marine who was killed in action contacts his widow "from beyond the grave."
1x10 Left for Dead
Todd befriends an injured amnesiac woman who escaped from her grave and whose only memory is that a bomb has been placed on a Navy vessel.
1x11 Eye Spy
A satellite operative inadvertently witnesses a murder while spying on a nude sunbather on the beach at a naval base.
1x12 My Other Left Foot
The NCIS team is called in to investigate after the leg of a missing Marine is found in a dumpster in West Virginia.
1x13 One Shot, One Kill
The NCIS team tries to catch a sniper who preys on Marine recruiters.
1x14 The Good Samaritan
Unknowing motorists stopping on the side of the road to help those in need appear dead in apparent serial killings. When Navy Lieutenants from nearby Naval Air Station Oceana base become some of the casualties, NCIS is called to investigate.
1x15 Enigma
Gibbs receives a package from a former commanding officer who has recently gone AWOL in Iraq after suspecting a conspiracy and requires his help back in the United States.
1x16 Bête Noire
A terrorist infiltrates the NCIS building and holds members of the team hostage. First appearance of Ari.
1x17 The Truth is Out There
The opening scene reveales the body of a young officer. As the investigation progresses, the reason for the death seems more and more sinister and out of this world.
1x18 UnSEALed
A Navy SEAL who was discharged after being sentenced for the murder of his wife escapes from Leavenworth to contact his son and find the real killer.
1x19 Dead Man Talking
An NCIS agent is murdered while investigating an old case, Gibbs and the rest of the team take up the cold case and find that all is not what it seems.
1x20 Missing
A Marine is captured and tortured, as was his previous company members over a sinister transport gone wrong. The NCIS team needs to act fast after DiNozzo winds up imprisoned as well.
1x21 Split Decision
After thrillseekers find the body of a Marine who has been mortally wounded by the fire of anti-tank weapons, investigations by the NCIS team lead to co-operation with the ATF and dealings with a local militia group.
1x22 A Weak Link
Before a top secret mission is commenced, a Navy SEAL died during a training mission in a disused mine. Gibbs and the team need to prove that the death is not malicious to ensure that the mission can proceed.
1x23 Reveille
The team is concerned with Gibbs as his determination in identifying and tracking down the terrorist (Ari) who infiltrated NCIS and shot him turns into an obsession. |
