Down Argentine Way (1940)
Irresistible songs and lavish musical numbers give a staccato beat to the romantic adventures of Betty Grable and Don Ameche in this Technicolor extravaganza.
Everyone goes south of the border in this comic tale of horseracing, with lots of romance and nightclubbing tossed in. Glenda (Grable) wants to buy a horse from Ricardo (Ameche). But because their families have been feuding for years, Ricardo's father refuses. But in true Romeo and Juliet fashion, the two fall in love. Carmen Miranda makes her North American film debut and the Nicholas Brothers do brilliant things with their feet in this romp that also features Charlotte Greenwood, J. Carrol Naish, Henry Stephenson and Leonid Kinskey.
Moon Over Miami (1941)
This sparkling 1941 musical tour of Miami's glamorous social set stars Betty Grable, Carole Landis, Don Ameche, Robert Cummings and Charlotte Greenwood.
Weary of their waitress jobs at a Texas drive-in, Kay and Barbara Latimer (Grable and Landis) gamble every cent they've got on an elaborate plot to land at least one rich husband. With Kay posing as a wealthy heiress, Barbara as her secretary and Aunt Susan (Greenwood) as their maid, they head for Miami in search of millionaires. It almost works: Although wealthy playboy Jeff Boulton (Robert Cummings) falls for the gorgeous Kay, she winds up losing her heart to Phil O'Neil (Don Ameche), who hasn't got a dime. And the complications continue from there in this enjoyable romp filled with love songs under the palms and lively nightclub extravaganzas.
My Blue Heaven (1950)
My Blue Heaven is an entertaining Technicolor® musical romp with a rich story, as well as plenty of comedy and romance!
Kitty (Betty Grable) and Jack (Dan Dailey) are a popular husband-and-wife entertainer team making their move from radio to television. However, as exciting as this progress is, they believe their lives will be complete when they can start a family. But when they decide to adopt - a process fraught with problems and disappointments - they are ultimately rewarded with an overabundance of babies! Peppered with songs and dances, this dazzling film also features a spectacular all-star cast, including Mitzi Gaynor in her first film role.
The Dolly Sisters (1945)
Betty Grable and June Haver star as the Dolly sisters, who sang and danced their way into the hearts of vaudeville audiences in New York and Paris.
Jenny (Grable) and Rosie (Haver) Dolly were a dancing sensation before the first World War. Shadowing their success was noted dancer-composer Harry Fox (John Payne), who carried a torch for Jenny. A romance develops between Jenny and Harry that seems unstoppable, as does Rosie's romance with department store owner Irving Netcher (Frank Latimore), but both relationships will be tested in ways none of them could have imagined. |
