Storyline:

Enter the world of Bobby Paradise, a former astronaut who discovered God during a crisis in space and upon his return became a prominent minister. His power and success are in jeopardy when he finds his family at the center of sexual scandal, government investigation and a murderous secret.

Frank Pierson, who penned the scripts for DOG DAY AFTERNOON and COOL HAND LUKE, takes on the media and the business of religion in this scathing story of televangelist Bobby Paradise (David Strathairn, LA CONFIDENTIAL). Formerly an astronaut, Bobby saw God while in space and returned to Earth ready to spread the Word--or at least that's the story he told his wife, Elizabeth (Barbara Hershey, SHY PEOPLE, BEACHES) tells. The two go into business together, and build an evangelical empire, joining the ranks of the rich and famous and enjoying a lifestyle that contrasts markedly with those of the faithful. Doubt is introduced as to the sincerity of the Paradises' claims, and scandal looms on their horizon. A proposed merger with an important mogul, whose past is sullied in the public eye, threatens to expose the skeletons in the Paradise family's own closet. First aired on Showtime, this drama is extremely prescient in the context of today's constant media bombardment regarding sex and religion scandals, and is extremely well acted by all of its players.
