Storyline:
Billy Rose's Jumbo (1962)
Doris Day stars as Kitty Wonder in "Billy Rose's Jumbo", as the daughter of a circus owner in desperate straits. Pop and Kitty Wonder are the owners of the Wonder Circus and because of Pop's addiction to gambling they are constantly in debt and the creditors are very close to foreclosing on them. Their main attraction is Jumbo, the elephant and it seems that their competitor, John Noble wants Jumbo and is luring away all of their acts leaving them with virtually nothing. Then all of a sudden a mysterious man named Sam Rawlins joins them as a wire walker and Kitty is taken with him, what they don't know is that he's Noble's son. The ages-old circus tale gets lively with the songs of Rogers and Hart, and Busby Berkeley's production numbers. Scripted by Hecht and MacArthur. Academy Award Nominations: Best (Adapted) Score. Calamity Jane (1953)
Tomboy sharpshooter Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok tote guns, carry tunes and fall in love. Energetic musical about the unlikely romance of famed Western tomboy Calamity Jane and gunfighter Wild Bill Hickok. In an attempt to lure a handsome Army lieutenant away from another woman, Jane trades in her gunslinging and uniforms for housekeeping and dresses, and wins the affections of Wild Bill instead. At first Curvaceous Calamity (Doris Day) is too durned busy fighting Indians and cracking a bullwhip to pay mind to such girlie what-alls as dresses and perfume. And Wild Bill is too danged busy wooing a dainty chateuse to give a hoot about a hot-headed tomboy. But things change in a big way when each becomes love's target. Western legends Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok fuss, feud and fall in love in this hit from the golden age of movie musicals. Includes the Academy Award-winning song "Secret Love." Frank Tashlin directs with a cartoonist's sensibility, embracing everything from spy guises to push-button chaos in a futuristic kitchen. The film The Glass Bottom Boat also stars top comedians Arthur Godfrey, Paul Lynde, Edward Andrews, John McGiver, Dom DeLuise and Dick Martin. All-American Doris Day is mistaken for a Communist spy in this slapstick romantic comedy. When her secretly smitten boss at the aerospace lab asks her to write his biography as a ploy to spend time with her, suspicious heads turn-especially since her dog is named Vladimir! Day croons Que Sera, Sera, amongst others. The Doris Day Collection

C'mon and listen to songbird Doris Day heads toward Great White Way stardom in this sparkling songfest Lullaby Of Broadway that's full of favorite standards, co-starring Gene Nelson. In Lullaby Of Broadway young actress Melinda Howard (Doris Day) has just returned to New York from touring in England. Upon her arrival, Melinda becomes involved with two very different men. One is Tom Farnham, a famous dancer/singer who falls in love with the charming Melinda, and becomes her co-star in a musical, "Lullaby of Broadway". The other gent is Adolph Hubbel, an aging, married millionaire whose harmless friendship with Melinda leads to wacky complications when his wife suspects otherwise. But unfortunately, Melinda must also contend with a very serious matter: her actress mother has developed a serious drinking problem. Can Melinda prevent her mom from hitting rock bottom -- and turn her life around in the process? The Pajama Game (1957)
Labor and management at the Sleeptite Pajama Factory aren't sleeping much lately: a proposed 7.5-cent hourly wage increase is why, and a strike may result. Songs by Richard Adler and Jerry Ross with choreography by Bob Fosse. Pajamas, love, singing, and labor union vs. management conflicts create the colorful basis of THE PAJAMA GAME, based on the Broadway musical. Chock-full of musical numbers and romantic subplots, the real story is the seven-and-a-half-cents-per-hour raise the pajama factory workers are demanding to keep their salaries comparable with other garment workers’ pay. Sid (John Raitt), the new superintendent of the factory, pushes both himself and the workers hard in order to prove himself to the owner, but a visit by the union grievances committee in the form of lovely but tough Babe (Doris Day) brings out his softer, romantic side. Despite their love, Babe warns Sid that the union-management turmoil will cause problems for them too, and Sid has to juggle his job, his heart, and his conscience to find a solution that will solve everything. The Broadway production of THE PAJAMA GAME was directed by George Abbott and Jerome Robbins. George Abbott codirected the film version with Stanley Donen. Pioneer choreographer Bob Fosse designed the dance numbers. Several actors from the Broadway cast reprised their stage roles for the film, including John Raitt and Carol Haney. Doris Day replaced Janis Paige, the show's female lead, onscreen. French New Wave director Jean-Luc Godard dubbed THE PAJAMA GAME "the first left-wing operetta." In this delightful comedy Please Don't Eat the Daisies, New York theater critic Lawrence Mackay has his hands full when he puts the bright lights of Broadway behind him and moves to a country house. But trying to work at home in the midst of the Mackay family proves nearly impossible: his beautiful wife, three boisterous young boys, one infant, and one lovable English sheepdog provide endless distractions and constant chaos. Worst of all, when Mackay finally does become successful, it goes right to his head -- and suddenly he ends up caring more about his own popularity than anything, or anyone, else. With his second hand trumpet and the loving guidance of brilliant blues-man, a lonely boy grows into manhood as a superb horn musician whose talent carries him from honky-tonks to posh supper clubs. But his desperate search for the elusive high note trapped in his mind, but impossible to play starts him on a boozy downward slide. Charged with dynamic performances with Kirk Douglas, Doris Day, Lauren Bacall and Hoagy Charmichael and pitch perfect direction by Michael Curtiz the film is a feast of hot, cool, moody jazz. Legendary Harry James dubbed Douglas' hornwork. Day brings another fine instrument - her voice. to four standards. Movie music lovers will be glad to meet this young man with a horn.
